A BESIX Watpac–John Holland joint venture is the only bidder in final negotiations for the 63,000-seat Brisbane Stadium, with construction expected to start in 2027.
The Games Independent Infrastructure and Coordination Authority (GIICA) has moved a joint venture of BESIX Watpac and John Holland into the final phase of contract negotiations for the new 63,000-seat stadium at Victoria Park. It is the only remaining bidder. The tender process began in October 2025.
The stadium is estimated at about $3.6 billion, part of the $7.1 billion Games venue program agreed with the federal government. GIICA took possession of the site in June and earthworks are already underway. The consortium will now work with the design team, led by Cox and Hassell with Japan's Azusa Sekkei, to finalise the design and construction method. Contracts are expected early next year, with main construction starting in 2027.
Why it matters for developers & landowners: The stadium is the anchor of the inner-north Brisbane Olympic precinct. A confirmed builder and a 2027 start date firm up the timeline for surrounding renewal, and will add further demand for construction labour across SEQ.
