The State has completed Skyline View, 30 new homes in Southport for older women, seniors downsizing and people with disability, with 543 more social and affordable homes underway on the Gold Coast.
A new 30-home social housing development called Skyline View has been completed in Southport, the Queensland Government announced on 9 October 2026. The project includes 27 social homes and three specialist disability accommodation homes, and will be managed by Community Housing Limited.
The homes are aimed at older women, people with disability and seniors already in social housing who want to move into a smaller home. The Government says helping tenants downsize frees up larger social homes for families on the waitlist.
Housing Minister Sam O'Connor said the homes would give vulnerable Gold Coasters "a safe, secure and appropriate place to call home". Member for Southport Rob Molhoek welcomed more social housing in the suburb. The statement did not give a street address or the project's cost.
The Government says more than 7,000 social and affordable homes are under construction or contracted across Queensland, and that it is on track to deliver four times the previous government's average of 509 social homes a year by 2028.
Construction of Skyline View is now complete. The larger 213-home Southport Supportive Housing Project remains under way, and the Government has not set a completion date in this statement. Further Gold Coast social and affordable projects from the 543-home pipeline will be completed progressively.
Social housing completions do not directly affect private sale prices, but they can ease some pressure on the lower end of the rental market by moving households off the waitlist and out of private rentals. Downsizer-focused projects like Skyline View also free up larger social homes, which helps the system house more families without additional land.
For developers, the State's $5.725 billion commitment and its partnerships with community housing providers continue to create opportunities to deliver build-to-order or partnership projects, particularly well-located medium-density sites near transport and services in centres such as Southport.
They are designed for older women, people with disability, and seniors in social housing who want to downsize to a more suitable home.
The Government says 543 social and affordable homes are underway across the Gold Coast, including the 213-home Southport Supportive Housing Project.
Community Housing Limited (CHL), a community housing provider, will manage the homes.
